Really good and the cook was really nice gave us extra appetizers. Good and tasty had the California roll.

It was amazing! He worked so quickly by himself and he had so many customers so it was totally understandable to wait! The food was delicious and the decor was adorable! Love it so so much!

Small place. Menu was not huge, food and service great. Area best kept sushi secret! He may look like he is not open. Always check. Always takes care of me.

Such a great experience at Hanaya Sushi! Had been craving sushi for quite a while and due to COVID hadn't explored the La Jolla areas food options since moving here. We found their menu online and given the good reviews decided to order over the phone. It was so so so lovely. We got 3 rolls, but it came with a tons of sides. Soup, edamame, crab salad, green tea, and a handful of candies. Next time we order we will probably get two rolls because it was so much food. He also gave us some lovely flowers and a cute care package with a gel pen inside. Favorite roll was the salmon skin roll hands down! The other rolls were good as well but the salmon skin was our favorite by far. Overall for the sweet touches and care put into the food and presentation it's absolutely worth a visit to Hanaya Sushi.

I dined in with a friend on a week night. We ordered a couple rolls to split and a couple sides. The service was great! The portions were generous and the presentation of the sushi was impressive. I will definitely go back there again.

Do not let the small menu here deceive you. The rolls are Hanaya are very big, and they are affordable. Delicious sushi, and the owner is very friendly and hardworking. Definitely a must stop spot for sushi if you are in the San Diego area. We had a great time here, and I am glad I discovered this restaurant.

Excellent sushi chef, artistic presentation

Beautiful store, wonderful restaurant, and very nice staff. I felt I was back in my old neighbor hood, when I immediately walked through their doors. The staff was very pleasant and Sashimi Small is beyond other Sashimis' I have tried in other Japanese restaurants.

Wonderful sushi Cafe. I have not had such excellent and tastefully presented sushi in a long while.Excellent serving sizes, good prices, and tasteful arrangement. The interior is small, but has a very pleasant feeling to it.I definitely recommend you check this place out.

The nicest owner/chef/waiter/busboy that I’ve ever met. Freshest sushi I’ve had that wasn’t on the water and best service to boot. Incredibly great value for the price and plenty of extra things thrown in that I always love. Please help me keep giving this place business through the pandemic!

What a wonderful dinner! The owner is lovely, takes such care to take his time with preparing and presenting the food, and it was very tasty. He is so pleasant and hard working... he runs that place completely on his own! A very relaxing meal (and affordable, extra bonus). Will be back!

My husband and I wanted a little sushi dinner date and we are very pleased with this restaurant. The sushi was absolutely delicious! The server was very fast and yet the food and decor are placed perfectly on the trays. I went to the restroom and the bathroom was very clean and smelled great from Lavender incense. Definitely recommend Hanaya Sushi :)

The sushi chef here is named "Hee" and is one of the best sushi chefs in San Diego. He's been around for probably about 30 years in this town, has owned a few different restaurants, and we've always followed. Excellent high-quality fish, some really creative stuff if you ask him to, and just an excellent host. His current place is pretty small and very informal, but the quality is all still there. Not to be missed.

The food is always great and very reasonably priced. Fish is very fresh. Dishes are impeccably presented. Service is always personal and top-notch. This is one of my regular places!

His name ie He, and HE is the nicest, most generous man! He strives for perfection, and pleasing the customer is of most importance to him. Always fresh flowers, fresh sushi, fresh music. Today I placed an order TO GO. It came complete with 20 large pieces of sushi (a mixture of both salmon and tuna), crab salad, edamame, delicious fresh carved fruit, a lit up fresh rose and Astor Lilly, and more! All of this for $23! I feel so spoiled.

Hidden gem! Top quality sushi served by the coolest sushi chef in SD. Generous quantities and reasonably priced. Atmosphere is very low key, and this is mainly a lunch place. Dinnertime you will find yourself to be amongst a very small group of diners. Generous portions and lovely presentation, served with style.

Loved the food and the service! The sushi chef came running to help me.. bring me water.. soup.. edemame.. helped me with my order.. change the menu so I could have exactly what I wanted. The place came all decorated with a little Ferrero Roche and an orange for desert. So cute! Amazing salmon sashime!

This was the worst place I've ever been. Order sushi, and he cooked it in a microwave right in front of us. It smelled terrible. This place is disgusting... We left after telling him we couldn't eat it, and he was pissed... I paid 20, even though we couldn't eat the food, and he said he would call the police if we didn't pay, NC I asked him to consider not charging us.. (even though I was in the middle of paying.).. either way, if you go there , be ready to watch him cook the nasty food in a microwave right in front of you... microwave sushi... Yuck...

I found plastic in my sushi and they told me that was normal. Didnt even offer to take it off the meal instead took my 1 dollar miso soup off. I feel i should have refused to pay at all. Would never go back

I've been coming to this place since the summer of 2017 and I've always received great quality food.

Love the atmosphere here. Soon as you walk in it's like the hustle and bustle of the business sector disappear. The sushi is good. I've had better but it's definitely in my top 3 for lunch spots.

I was greeted and seated right away by the friendly chef. The menu was simple, but the food was nothing short of terrific. I was brought miso soup, edamame, and my drink while my entree was prepared. The food plating was gorgeous, with a rose, and a small piece of art lit by a concealed LED. The proportions were generous. I ordered a rainbow roll and a spicy tuna roll, but I was also served two pieces of a larger roll wrapped in seaweed and filled with cucumber, crab, and shrimp. There wasn't much traffic on a Tuesday night, but the two other people who came in while I was there were obviously repeat customers and the chef was very personable with them. I will absolutely be visiting Hanaya Sushi again.

I eat their for lunch several times a week. The food is great and the portions are large.

Wasn't sure what to think when I walked in. There was only one customer. But it soon filled up. The owner was the only one working. But he worked fast and was friendly. I wouldn't say it was he best sushi I have had but the presentation was very nice. Gave me free miso soup, soy beans, crab salad, ans seaweed salad. The rolls we're good sized.

Sushi was great, owner was very nice, wait time was reasonable. Ordered a couple items to go, when I got back to my hotel I was surprised to find some extra sides and drinks he threw in for free. Portions turned out to be huge, so I ended up with way more than I could eat. All the fish tasted fresh. I would definitely go again.

I would go to this place several times a week if I lived here! The Owner (and sushi chef) was as cute and polite as can be. I ordered the 8 pcs sushi and got 10 pieces which also came with edamame and 2 slaws and and an orange. A whole orange. Oh AND flowers in a lighted display. I also ordered a glass of Chardonnay. All that for $23. He even sent me home with fresh flowers and a new light that he dropped in in water to light it up. Oh and I got miso soup too - complimentary. Please go there. It’s absolutely worth the trip. If I can find a way to attach a pic..
